American Educational North Pole Coal, 3 Lumps

Product Description

The American Educational North Pole coal features three lumps of coal for practical and impractical applications such as drawing, stocking-stuffing, behavior-messaging, and vigorous attempts at diamond-making. They come housed in a festive 4 x 6 inch plastic baggie with zip-closure. Coal is used by large, bearded men in red suits, parents, loved ones, friends, neighbors, and officemates to convey special feelings. A lump of coal may be used to express displeasure, convey deeds that have not been well done, or to signify when a person could have been less naughty. Coal is used in a variety of home, office party, and entertainment industry applications. Suggested product applications include display in a holiday centerpiece to promote good behavior, and use with messaging such as “Sally did not walk the dog.”

Anthracite coal burns with little smoke or flame, producing a smoldering effect for the holiday mood. With an 86 to 98 percent fixed carbon content, anthracite coal is one of the strongest and shiniest coals. Anthracite coal is also known as blue coal, crow coal, Kilkenny coal, blind coal, and black diamond coal. Stewed and brewed with heat over time, anthracite coal has been physically altered, much like the facial expressions of those who receive it. Anthracite coal has a heating value of approximately 13,400 to 15,600 BTU per pound, enough to properly steam any giftee.

Warning: Use at your own risk. Distributor not responsible for intended or unintended consequences, including belief that gift-giver’s heart is two sizes too small. Product not sourced from the North Pole. Made in the USA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this coal!, November 6, 2012

As a loving uncle I always look for fun gifts for my precocious nephew. This looked like something fun with an educational spin on it so I ordered some. I had it delivered to my office and tore one package open with enthusiasm. I had it delivered to my office because I don't trust Larry, my neighborhood mail carrier. I swear he's been taking some of my Sheep Magazine issues, especially the annual shearing edition. He also makes comments about me still living at home in my 30s. Hey, Larry, it's not easy living with your parents as an adult... let's see you try it. So anyway, I can't actually attest to its freshness, as advertised, but I suppose it smells like what I imagine fresh coal should smell like. Is it really anthracite coal? Beats me, for all I know they could be slipping me some of that bituminous junk in a package and calling it whatever but I'm not going to make a mountain out of a COAL hill. I trust Amazon to not hoodwink me like that though. Ebay though? Never... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly overpriced, December 4, 2012

This is a bag of coal that weighs less than one pound. One ton of coal costs $90.00 per short ton, or about $0.05 per pound. Accordingly this costs over 150 times the price of the coal located therein. So ask yourself, is $7.20 too much to pay for a Ziplock bag and a label?
